Past Board Member and V.P. for Business Development - Doug McClain, P.E., EFHFI (1939-2017)

Doug McClainIn Memoriam: The Health Facility Institute mourns the loss of E. Douglas McClain, who passed away after a long illness on Saturday, July 29th, 2017, his 78th birthday. Doug was a greatly respected member of the health facility project management community both during his service in the US Air Force, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1981, and then with Page Southerland Page (Page). In 1990, Doug became one of the first Fellows in the Institute and served as a member of the second Board of Directors as well as two subsequent Boards. In 2007, Doug joined the HFI leadership team where he continuously worked to improve the organization through expanding membership. Doug used his photographic skills to capture the history of the organization and provide a photographic record for all to enjoy. As a tribute to his outstanding contribution to the HFI, the Doug McClain Award for Excellence was established to recognize those who, like Doug, make a significant difference in the field of healthcare project management.

 

Chairman - Gary Schindele, FHFI

Gary is President and co-owner of Paladin Healthcare LLC. Gary is an International Sales and Marketing professional with a strong clinical background accumulated over 40 years of patient care experience in the pre-hospital and Emergency Department arenas. His certifications include: Firefighter Paramedic, Tactical Emergency Casualty Care and HazMat Technician. Gary has lead international capital equipment teams in the critical care areas of healthcare for 35 years. Gary has been involved in many hundreds of healthcare projects around the world during the course of his career.

Chairman Elect 2018 - C. R. Ché Miranda, FHFI

Ché recently retired as Deputy Chief of Staff, Installations and Logistics, at Navy Medicine West (NMW) from Feb 2002 - Dec 2015.  A Navy Veteran with over 30 years active military service and 14 years Civil Service. His healthcare experience spans both primary care delivery as a provider and healthcare administrator, and as Facilities Officer at NH Jacksonville and Naval Hospital Twenty-nine Palms, where he transitioned into a Medical Construction Liaison Officer (MCLO) career field gaining project and program management experience in planning, programming, design, maintenance, construction and outfitting of Navy Medicine assets, worldwide.

Chairman Elect 2019 - Jonathon Sylvie, PhD, PE, PMP, FHFI

Jon is a Principal with Page and has a prestigious resumé of over 25 years of experience in project and program management for military healthcare and research facilities, including oversight of more than $2.3 billion in design and construction of medical facilities during his service as Program Manager for the U.S. Army Surgeon General. Today, he applies this knowledge as the Government Market Sector Leader at Page. He is responsible for project management and business development for the federal, civic, and healthcare market sectors. Jon received undergraduate degrees in Industrial Management and Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University; an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in Construction Engineering and Project Management.

President/CEO

Robert Farrow, AIA, LEED AP, FHFI, is Principal & Senior Vice President and Director of Healthcare, Southeast Region of HKS Architects, Atlanta, GA. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Auburn University and has 37 years experience in facility master planning, design, and construction in both the private and government arena. His design portfolio includes ambulatory care centers, community hospitals, large complex teaching hospitals and research facilities, corporate office/manufacturing facilities, and office/retail/mixed use developments. Chief Financial Officer

Ron Deike, MBA, FHFI, has over 30 years of medical healthcare project management experience as a Medical Construction Liaison Officer (MCLO), Facilities Planning and Projects Officer (HFPPO) and senior project manager with projects ranging from small, medium and large medical outpatient clinics to tertiary care facilities. Jim Newborn, MHA, EFHFI, is the President of his own consulting firm, providing a variety of consulting services to hospitals and firms for over 30 years. Vice President for Educational Programs

John Baldwin, MBA, EFHFI, is the Principal for John Baldwin PM, LLC a VA Certified SDVOSB.  As a Senior Healthcare Executive he has provided owner services for government and private hospitals for over 35 years. He held senior positions with Jacobs Engineering, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Beers/Skanska, the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the US Air Force. Cindy Baldwin, AHFI, is the event planner and communications administrator for the Health Facility Institute. She has held executive level administrative positions for the Secretary of Defense, the Assistant Secretary for Acquisition, and the senior partner for PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Atlanta. Chip DeShields, FHFI, is Senior Associate and the Director of Business Development for Sherlock, Smith & Adams, a multi-disciplined architectural and engineering firm founded in 1946. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Troy University and has worked in architecture executive management for 18 years.
